Sorry We Missed You

Sorry We Missed You loach is not always right when he applies his old formula social analysis + will to denounce + Sorry We Missed You popular role + script by Paul Laverty. But when it happens, like here, the result is chilling. Perhaps the definitive film on the hoax of collaborative work, the story could not be more succinct: a worker in post-union times (everything we see has more to do with the ‘me’ than with the ‘us’) is employed by a large parcel company.

He knows that the conditions are draconian, but he has no choice … What happens today with so much Glovo, Uber and others. And what we see, in relentless dramatic crescendo, is how it goes headlong into ruin. Yours, your partner’s, your family’s. Loach endows him with a considerable humanity, while each character has his reasons for doing what he does, even the most abject: as Guy Débord denounced decades ago, the System is much more powerful than individual decisions, and responds to a mechanism that more than make life easier, it shreds it. The film is seen between pity and anguish, and in the end, we have to admire that luckily, there are still people like Laverty and Loach with the ability (and desire) to tell what happens. We will never appreciate it enough.
