Sleepless Police cinema is such a trite genre that the average viewer already knows most of the plots and twists that Sleepless can be found. Sometimes it is possible to get around this obstacle and offer masterpieces like Heat or notable titles like Training Day or Dueños de la calle, but the fine line that separates a good police thriller from a formulaic policeman is very fine, and without the talent of a good director or a script that provides something new, the risk of repetition is maximum.

Night of Vengeance is a remake of the French Nuit blanche and although the beginning is attractive, with a vigorous scene that promises, the film is rapidly sliding towards places already seen many times. Baran bo Odar, a director with little experience so far, tries to give the film a certain visual style a la Michael Mann with his aerial panoramas of Las Vegas, but the resource ends up losing effectiveness due to repetitiveness. Jamie Foxx repeats his usual pissed-off man performance tics in difficult circumstances and, while not annoying, is far from his jobs alongside Mann on Collateral or Miami Vice. At his side, Michelle Monaghan does what she can in the typical role of the unfriendly but conscientious Internal Affairs agent. David Harbor complies but is far from jobs like the one he does in Netflix’s superb Stranger Things.
