Fractured direct from the Sitges Festival, a film with more twists than the entire filmography of M. Night Fractured Shyamalan has landed on Netflix. Directed by Brad Anderson (author of the chilling ‘Session 9’), ‘Fractured’ is a family drama passed through the filter of accident trauma that, as we shall see, determines everything. A psychological thriller that flirts with the idea of criminal conspiracies to build a story about guilt, and especially about the inability of its protagonist (Sam Worthington, who goes ‘indie’ before launching into the ‘Avatar’ saga) to differentiate what is real and what is not. The film surprises with every new reveal, and while its seams can be seen from miles away, that shouldn’t stop us from giving it a shot.

Ray Monroe (Worthington) is an alcoholic in full rehabilitation, who drives behind the wheel of his car together with his wife Joanne (Lily Rabe) and their daughter Peri (Lucy Capri). They return from a disastrous Thanksgiving meal with her parents, where Ray’s many problems have come to light again, from his addictions to the trauma of the death of his ex-wife Abby more than five years ago. At a certain point along the way, the little girl needs to go to the bathroom and they park the car at a gas station, where a few minutes later the tragedy will occur: in a mistake by her parents, Peri is cornered by a dog with a threatening look and falls backwards into a space in full construction. Her father, who has precipitated all these events by throwing a stone at the dog and scaring his daughter, tries to catch her on the fly, but it is too late.
